It is said that before one can learn to run, they must crawl. The UNIX OS doesn't usually provide any specific reason for us to use it, but the UNIX OS does provides a common environment for many widely used applications, like web servers and data-base management systems.

Even though the class is online, this is a hands-on course. You'll get familiar with tools like telnet and ftp as well as with UNIX.

The prescribed text for the course is Amir Afzal, UNIX Unbounded: A Beginning Approach. The text and the course deal with SunOS version of Unix, but most of the material may be easily applied to other versions of Unix.
